Create a Certificate Expiry Alert

Certificate expiry alerts are sent to designated recipients for all certificates that are set to expire on the date specified on the Settings: Certificate expiry alert screen. So, for example, if the alert is created for certificates expiring on July 1 and 20 certificates are set to expire on that date, each recipient will receive notification about each of the 20 certificates.

To create a certificate expiry alert, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Menu icon (Menu) button.
  2. Navigate to Alert.
  3. On the Alert screen that opens, click the Settings button (Settings) button in the Command bar.
  4. On the Settings screen that opens, click the Certificate tab if it is not open already.
  5. Enter a name for the certificate alert.
  6. Select Critical as the severity of the alert.
  7. Skip the Alert message field.
  8. Skip the Vendor field.
  9. In the Event type field, select Certificate expiry alert.
  10. In the Expires in (days) field, enter the number of days prior to a certificate's expiration that an alert will be sent out.
  11. If you want to use email to send out the alert, SMTP must first be configured. Refer to the Configure SMTP for Email Alerting topic for details on how to do this. When you have finished, complete the following steps to use email as an alert method:
    1. Select the Email configuration check box.
    2. In the Email address field, enter each email address you want to send the alert to. Use commas to separate the addresses.
    3. In the Subject field, leave the default text or enter text that briefly describes the kind of alert the user is receiving in their Inbox.
  12. If you want to use Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) to send the alert, complete the following sub-steps:
    1. Enter the destination IP for the alert.
    2. Select the version of SNMP you want to use: V1 or V2.
    3. Enter the port the alert that should be used for the alert.
    1. Enter the community string for the alert. The string is similar to a user ID or password and allows users to access the requested information on the device.
  13. Click Add to finish creating the alert. It then appears at the bottom of the screen and on the Certificate tab within the Alert module.
